Van Tour of Turkey from Nakhchivan-3 Day Tour

  • 8 Hours Tour
  • Cable Car Ride
  • lunch
    Tasty Lunch Included

As we are leaving Nakhchivan, the road is rising toward the high points of Tendürek, and the landscape is suddenly opening in front of us. A cool wind is coming through the window, and the lines of the mountains invite your camera. Each curve of the road is becoming the first memory of the journey.

Approaching Tatvan, the large crater of Nemrut greets us. The lake’s surface is mirroring the clouds, and each step we make on this path reveals to us traces left behind by ancient flows of lava. At the viewpoint, we stop, feeling the scale of this natural wonder in all its uniqueness.

In Ahlat, the fine craftsmanship on the tombstones of the Seljuks comes alive before your eyes. The carved patterns in the stone are whispering tales of the centuries. In this deep silence, this meeting becomes one of your most personal contacts with history.

Lake Van’s shores open up to your breath, while shades of blue accompany your way. We get closer to Akdamar Island with a boat, and the reliefs of the church come into view. While we walk through the courtyard, we notice one by one all the scenes carved in stone.

While we climb up to Van Castle, the city and the lake come together in a single frame. Daylight travels across the walls; the traces of the past stand side by side with the liveliness of the present. It is from here that we read the rhythm of Van like a painted landscape.

During the city tour, new doors have been opening up for us: the smell of the market, the sound of the streets, and the local flavors. With a glass of tea rising from a thin-waisted cup, we are taking a short break. As we are getting ready to return, a clear route and a desire to come again have been staying with you.

FAQ

Where and what time will I be picked up?

We pick you up every day in front of your hotel at the time specified in the itinerary. We confirm your room check-out, breakfast time, and luggage arrangement on site. Pick-up is at 8:00 AM on the first day, 8:30 AM on the second day, and 7:30 AM on the third day.

How long is the Akdamar boat crossing? Is seasickness possible?

We take a short boat crossing from Gevaş pier to the island. For guests sensitive to waves, we recommend sitting near the bow and looking at the horizon. You can use a nausea band or wristband before departure. We will confirm the return time together at the pier.

Can I swim in Lake Van? What is safe swimming?

You can swim at designated beaches. Lake Van has alkaline water; it can sting your eyes and dry skin. A face mask is helpful; rinse with fresh water after leaving the water. We recommend that guests with children use lifeguard areas. If the wind increases, we ask that you stay close to the shore; we do not exceed the warning buoys.

What is your walking level? Will it be difficult in Muradiye and Hoşap?

The program is based on a “relaxed pace.” The ascent and descent to the wooden bridge in Muradiye is a short ramp; we recommend non-slip shoes. There is a short but steep ascent up the castle slope in Hoşap; we proceed with breaks. We recommend bringing a walking stick for those with knee or ankle problems.

What should I wear? What should I pack?

We recommend layers, a windbreaker, a hat, sun protection, a bottle of water, and a portable charger. Comfortable walking shoes; you can bring a lightweight tripod for photography at Akdamar and the castle.

How are meals planned? I have special dietary requirements. Can you accommodate them?

We offer local cuisine-focused menus every day for lunch and dinner: Van böreği (Turkish pastry), etli sarma (stuffed meat), tandoori meat, keledosh (a type of flatbread), seasonal salads, ayran (a type of yogurt drink), and tea are our main options. If you inform us of your vegetarian or gluten-free preferences at the time of reservation, we will coordinate the process with the restaurant and prepare a suitable plate.

What can we drink for dinner? What are the dessert options?

Ayran, tea, and turnip juice are popular local dishes. For dessert, you can choose rice pudding or kavut (a type of kavut). We take your drink preferences before service, and we set the table according to your preferences.

How do I get tickets, enter the archaeological sites, and pay?

We guide you through museum and archaeological site entrances on site. While cards are accepted at the ticket booths, we ask that you have cash with you in case of any issues. We finalize boat tickets together at the dock; if there are queues, we expedite the process on behalf of the group.

Is there anything I should be aware of regarding photography, drones, and prayer areas?

We ask that you do not use flash indoors. We adhere to the warnings of officials when shooting inside churches in Akdamar. Official permission may be required for drones; we do not operate them without permission. We prioritize silence and privacy inside mosques.

Where will you be dropped off at the end of the tour? Will I catch a plane or a bus?

On the last day, we will pick you up at 8:30 PM after dinner and drop you off at your hotel, Van Ferit Melen Airport (VAN), or Van Bus Terminal, depending on your preference. We plan to have guests with flights arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight; we will schedule the bus to match the platform times.
