Northern Highlands & Mountain Route-3 Day Tour

  • 8 Hours Tour
  • Cable Car Ride
  • lunch
    Tasty Lunch Included

On the Northern Highlands & Mountain Route, we head to cool mountain peaks, stone paths, and a clear sky. Our first stop is Shahbuz, where we breathe in the scent of juniper and feel the silence of higher ground. Step by step, we walk along the ridges of Ağbulaq, taking gentle hikes that follow the rhythm of our breath and open up wide panoramas.

In the village, we knock on the doors of small workshops and meet local craftsmen. We see how felt, stone, and copper become handmade items, and short conversations with the masters bring these materials to life. Every surface we touch – wool, wood, stone, metal – adds a new layer to the memory of the journey.

We will stay overnight in a mountain hotel in Ağbulaq/Şahbuz, with large wooden interiors and windows framing the night sky full of stars. We will gradually fall asleep, lulled by the soft sound of the stove, and in the morning we are going to wake up with mountain light streaming through the window.

Flowers in the meadow guide our walk in Batabat. In this short, photography and nature mini-workshop, we capture light on the lake and clouds drifting over its surface. Colors of the landscape seem deeper and clearer as our steps slow.

Our breaks turn into small plateau picnics: fresh cottage cheese, local cheeses, kaymak, ayran, warm tandır bread, and mountain honey. Such simple tastes bring freshness and comfort to the day. We note down in our notebooks the names and scents of meadow herbs.

On the panoramic drive to Sharur, the sharp silhouette of Ilandag fills the horizon. At a scenic viewpoint, legends give the rocks all new meaning as our gaze rests on the distant ridgelines. The purple-tinged outlines of the mountains continue to be at the back of our minds long after the ride to the city center ends.

FAQ

How many days does the tour last, and on which days does it depart?

This tour lasts 3 days and 2 nights. We plan your departure and return dates around your flights; we’ll pick you up in the morning and drop you off in the afternoon on the third day.

I'm in moderate physical condition; are the hiking trails suitable for me?

Suitable. The first day involves a 2.5 km moderate slope, and the second day consists of short and medium stages. We’ll adjust the pace to suit you, not the group; you’ll progress smoothly with a “leader, middle, follower” approach.

Where are you staying, and what are the room layouts?

You’ll stay at the Ağbulaq/Şahbuz mountain hotel. The rooms are furnished with wooden furniture, heating, hot water, and clean linens. We offer a choice of double or single rooms.

What's included in the meals; can you accommodate my special dietary needs?

We offer highland picnics, local dairy products, tandoori bread, soup, and grilled options. Please share any vegetarian, lactose intolerant, or allergic reactions; we’ll prepare the menu accordingly.

What happens to the itinerary if weather conditions change?

If there’s rain or fog, we’ll switch to a forest-based alternative instead of an open route. We’ll provide ponchos and spare socks, and we’ll choose safe vantage points. Safety is paramount.

What should I bring?

We recommend ankle-supporting walking shoes, a windproof jacket, a hat, sunscreen, a 1–1.5 L water bottle, spare socks, a small backpack, and a power bank. We’ll provide a walking stick on site to those who request one.

I'm traveling alone; what do you do about accommodations and safety?

You’ll be accompanied by a guide from the moment you meet us until you return. We’ll arrange seating and room sharing according to your preferences; emergency equipment and communication devices are readily available.

Is there a photo opportunity?

We’ll hold a short workshop on capturing the light in Ağbulaq and Batabat; we’ll share practical tips on wide framing, macro, and composition. We’ll also identify safe framing points for the Ilandag skyline.

What does the fee include; are there any additional charges?

Two nights’ accommodation, three breakfasts, two picnic lunches, two dinners, intermediate transportation, guidance, workshop content, use of telescopes/binoculars, and basic insurance are included. Personal expenses, non-alcoholic/alcoholic extra drinks, and optional canoe fees are excluded.

How do booking and cancellation policies work?

Submit your flight times, and we’ll add the pick-up and return transfer to the itinerary. After confirmation, we’ll take the prepayment. In the event of a contingency, we’ll offer flexible date changes and inform you of the cancellation policy in writing.
