The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is part of Azerbaijan. Entry requirements for Nakhchivan are applied under Azerbaijan’s visa regime.
Citizens of countries that have visa-free entry to Azerbaijan enter Nakhchivan without a visa. Visa-free stay periods are as follows: citizens of Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Türkiye may enter visa-free for up to 90 days; citizens of the Russian Federation may enter visa-free for up to 90 days within a calendar year; citizens of Qatar may enter visa-free for up to 30 days; citizens of the United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Albania, and Morocco may enter visa-free for up to 90 days. Holders of passports of the People’s Republic of China may stay 30 days per entry; the total stay within 180 days may not exceed 90 days.
Qatari citizens entering for education or employment purposes obtain a visa in advance under Azerbaijani regulations.
For direct travel between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, entry with a new-generation biometric national ID card is applied. Under this practice, Turkish citizens enter Azerbaijan (including Nakhchivan) visa-free with a 90-day stay entitlement.
As of 1 December 2019, Iranian citizens enter the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic without a visa or entry permit and may stay for up to 15 days. If Iranian citizens travel from Nakhchivan to Baku by air, a 30-day single-entry visa is issued at Nakhchivan International Airport, and a state fee of USD 20 is collected.
Citizens who do not have visa-free entry and whose country is included in the ASAN e-visa list obtain an electronic visa before travel. ASAN e-visa applications are submitted online. A standard e-visa is issued within 3 business days and the state fee is USD 20. An urgent e-visa is issued within 3 hours.
The ASAN e-visa eligible country list includes the following: Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Vatican City, Hungary, Honduras, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, South Korea, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Seychelles, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, The Bahamas, Maldives, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Uruguay, Vietnam.
At Azerbaijan’s international airports, a 30-day single-entry electronic visa is issued to citizens of certain countries. This arrangement is defined for citizens of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Japan, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Israel.
Additional provisions exist for visas issued at international airports: persons who hold residence cards issued by Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, or Kuwait, and accompanying persons who are citizens of the country that issued the residence card; holders of a United Arab Emirates residence visa with validity longer than 6 months; U.S. citizens traveling on a direct New York–Baku flight; persons arriving due to the death of a family member residing in Azerbaijan; and citizens of countries that do not have an accredited Azerbaijani diplomatic mission or consulate but have a direct air connection with Azerbaijan.
Citizens who are not on the visa-free list, are not included in the ASAN e-visa list, and are not covered by the airport visa-on-arrival scheme obtain an Azerbaijani visa from an Azerbaijani embassy or consulate.
For consular visas, the basic documents are defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan as follows: the official application form; a passport or travel document and copies of the main pages; a requirement that the passport validity extends at least 3 months beyond the expected visa end date; an application by the inviting party and a document proving the purpose of invitation (invitation documentation is also regulated separately for transit, tourism, official, and personal visit visas). The relevant diplomatic mission may request additional documents depending on the visa type.
Foreign nationals staying in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days complete address registration. For citizens of Kazakhstan, this period is 30 days. If the address changes, a new registration must be completed within 5 business days at the new address. Registration is completed through the State Migration Service channels online, by email, or via regional migration offices. No state fee is collected for address registration.
