We leave behind Nakhchivan and are greeted first by the silhouettes of the Caucasus Mountains. On the way, photo stops and local flavors grow our curiosity bit by bit. Once we cross the border, the road opens into a completely new story.
Once we get to Tbilisi, stone streets and old houses with wooden balconies welcome us in. We will be heading to Narikala Fortress, watching the city lights and exploring the panorama drawn by the bridges over Kura River. Wine tastings and live music round off the day with a sweet note.
Next morning, we go to Kakheti and enter into very old vineyards. The story of the wines matured in clay vessels, so-called kvevri, is reflected in every glass we taste. Around the table at family-run wineries, the warmth of genuine hospitality can be felt.
Colorful window frames and stone walls are giving us romantic pause in Sighnaghi. We look out from its terraces over the Alazani Valley, where time appears to stand still. Short walks along the cobble-stoned streets are enriched by stalls full of handmade crafts.
Batumi is adding a sea breeze to our journey on the Black Sea coast. The rhythm of the walk is set by palm trees along the boulevard, modern squares, and the lively atmosphere of the nearby Turkish border. We catch our breath on the bright white shore in the evening, watching light shows right from the sea.
Further, we might stop on the way back in Mtskheta to feel its sacred atmosphere, or in Borjomi, to refresh ourselves with its mineral waters. At the end of these two days, we are packing into the suitcase not only souvenirs but also memories collected all along the road. Thus, this journey, which started in Nakhchivan, turns into a clear picture in our mind with the warmth of Tbilisi, vineyard scents of Kakheti, and sea breeze of Batumi.
