Göy Lake is one of the natural mountain lakes, situated on the southern slope of the Zangezur Mountains and above 3,000 meters, with crystal clear water, cool wind, and amidst mountain meadows. At this height, there’s a cool sensation in the air even during summer, making it quite refreshing during hot days.
The most striking thing about the lake is its near-total absence of construction. You see Göy Göl in its purest form, with no cafes, facilities, parking lots, or prayer rooms. The only sounds are the silence, the sound of the wind, and that soft sound of the water’s own waves lapping against the shores.
Göy Lake is not a designated area for swimming or water sports. The water temperature is low even in summer, and there are no lifeguards or safety lines on the shore. Fishing is discouraged too; because it is a small and sensitive mountain ecosystem, fishing isn’t allowed.
The lake is surrounded by mountain meadows, with high-altitude plants dominating the area. On clear days, the mountain silhouette and sky are reflected in the water’s surface; on windy days, these reflections move with the waves. You can find an ideal setting for photography, observing nature, and merely breathing in fresh air on the shore and relaxing.
When you come to Göy Lake, you are not visiting a resort or a business, but you are coming to a protected, quiet, and unostentatious mountain lake. Much like everything you bring with you, making sure that your impressions are the only thing you leave behind is crucial for the survival of this fragile ecosystem.
