History and modernity go side by side in Nakhchivan. Wide streets, well-maintained squares, monuments-the capital illuminates every walk at night. Autonomous republic status, a disciplined city layout, and a relaxed pace guarantee a full day.

The most convenient border crossing from Turkey is Dilucu–Sedarak. A new type of ID card is valid for visa-free travel for up to 90 days; entry with a passport is also possible. Most options on the flight plan include a connection in Baku; choosing the overland route via Iğdır will make the crossing smooth.

The decagonal plan and Kufic inscriptions of the Mausoleum of Mömine Hatun greet you on the urban route. The Khans’ Palace and the Tomb of Noah, a museum-like setting, complete the historical walk. Heydar Aliyev Square is the focal point of the city with its statues and the museum; a short evening stroll along the boulevards is a treat.

During nature stops, you’ll first visit the Companions of the Cave (Ashab-ı Kehf) Shrine, renowned for its legends, and experience the spiritual atmosphere of the cave and surrounding sacred space. Then, climb approximately 1,500 steps to Alınca (Alinja) Castle; the panorama from the top is captivating. At the Duzdağ Salt Cave, you can see the speleotherapy center and breathe in the cool galleries. Photographing the floating peat island in Lake Batabat at a height rounds out the day with a light break.

The climate is continental; summers are hot and dry, while winters are cold. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for fresh air and scenery. You can easily adjust your pace by combining city tours with museum stops.

Naxçıvan cuisine stands out among the culinary stops: sini qovurma, Arzuman kuftte, govurma şorba, and tandoori bread make a strong presentation. Plov, qutab, dolma, dovğa, and Ordubad sweets can make excellent company. Manat is used for daily expenses; For small businesses, it’s helpful to have some cash on hand; Turkish is readily available in most places.
